My Services

  • I work with individuals who are feeling stuck or who have hit a bump in the road. We work together to understand the clients thinking, to clarify goals and to identify steps towards a solution. I act as an impartial, supportive sounding-board for people who are experiencing personal or professional challenges so they can take back control and move themselves to a more positive space.

  • I work with individuals at various stages of their careers. Those who are starting out, those who wish to upskill and prepare for promotion and those who wish to make a change. I have extensive experience preparing teachers for middle-management and leadership roles including application and interview preparation.

  • Our young-people are facing many challenges personally, socially and academically. Working as a Deputy Principal, in a busy co-ed secondary school, has given me great insight into these challenges. I have a lot of experience helping vulnerable and stuck young people, who need a safe and supportive space, to clarify their thinking and find a way to move forward on their own unique path. I help young people to set achievable goals so they experience success. This enables them to work towards building a more positive mindset around their area of challenge whether that is school, friendships, sport or anything else. The corner-stone of my success in this area is my ability to build relationships and trust with young people so they can truly engage with the process which is often life-changing for them. I also provide support for parents who are finding the teenage years challenging and help them to re-connect or maintain their connection with their teen who may be experiencing difficulty.

  • I have worked in the secondary school education sector for 19 years with the last 9 years as Deputy Principal. This experience has given me great insight into the challenges of both teachers and school leaders. I am passionate about delivering meaningful CPD for both teachers and school-leaders that can help them to make their roles more sustainable.

    I work with schools to devise bespoke, in-house CPD that addresses the particular needs of the individual school. The benefits of in-house CPD that is focussed on identified needs cannot be underestimated. In my experience;

    • Teachers & School Leaders are more willing to engage when they can see the value of the CPD.

    • When a school staff has a positive CPD experience together it helps to nurture relationships and re-invigorate their passion for their subjects.

    • Staff are more willing to challenge and be challenged when they are in the safety and comfort of a familiar environment.

    • The school benefits from the meaningful professional learning conversations that are facilitated.- Staff members are re-energised and more willing to foster new initiatives.

  • I have developed a programme for SNAs to help them to deal with the challenges they face in their roles. The programme involves applying coaching concepts to the work of an SNA so they can have a tool-box of techniques to draw on when they are finding work challenging. This course addresses work-life balance and managing stress also.

  • This programme is designed for aspiring middle-leaders and AP11 post-holders. The aim of this programme is to create a pipe-line of internal talent who are not only interview ready, but understand the role of a post-holder and their responsibilities as school-leaders. This innovative and challenging programme helps teachers to identify their gaps in their skill-set using the LAOS document, and encourages them to take on an initiative in school to address those skills-gaps. Teachers are challenged to foster leadership potential in their colleagues and build a team who can help with their initiative. Individual coaching as well as 4 group sessions are facilitated over the course of the year. The programme is delivered on-site, after school, to a group of no more than 10 participants. I work closely with the senior-leadership team to understand the unique landscape of the school and to ensure the needs of the school are met via the programme.   • I provide team-coaching services for senior leadership teams as well as post-holder teams. In the extremely busy and dynamic environment of a school, team coaching has become essential in my opinion. In order to ensure the sustainability of the roles at senior and middle management levels it is necessary to have a new and innovative way of looking at the work that is to be done. Rather than focussing on delegation and tasks team-coaching focuses on the idea of “Teaming” which aims for success beyond ourselves as individuals. My goal is to help the teams that I coach to become a team as described by Peter Hawkins. That is a team that meets and communicates in a way that raises morale and alignment and engages with all the teams stakeholder groups in a way that grows performance and provides constant learning and development for the collective team. In short, a team that works together rather than individually for the good of their school community.

The Clochán Approach

Clochán is an Irish word which has a number of meanings, one of which is stepping-stones, another is bee-hive hut. Both of these things are meaningful for anyone who undertakes a coaching journey.  By working together I can challenge and support you to find the next step to help you to achieve your personal or professional goals. Every journey, regardless of the distance, starts with one step. The bee-hive hut is a complex and strong structure. Like us as individuals, we can withstand a lot once we have the right supports and tools in place. As your coach I can help you to build those structures that will help you to with-stand any difficulties that life might throw at you.
